Hotel X Toronto by Library Hotel Collection
Guests of the new Hotel X Toronto are rapidly spreading the word about its offerings and guest experience.

When it comes to its offerings to guests, Hotel X Toronto believes in going above and beyond its peers in the hospitality industry. “We have the exceptional ability to customize any experience to our guests preferences,” Managing Director Christopher Lambert says. “There is no downtown hotel that can offer the options you’ll find at Hotel X Toronto.”
“Hotel X Toronto is designed to make people feel good now; we are eco-friendly, family friendly, and pet friendly. We support a balanced lifestyle, surrounded by glorious open views of Toronto’s dramatic skyline and breathtaking lakeshore,” says Lambert.
One of the hotel’s biggest drawing cards is its 90,000 square athletic club, Ten X Toronto. This impressive club, the largest of its kind in Canada, offers guests and local members access to four indoor tennis courts, nine squash courts, a golf simulator studio that can replicate 100 different golf courses and a gym with more than 50 state-of-the-art machines from Technogym. The fitness studios include a dedicated spinning room, a hot yoga room, and a Pilates reformer room. The hotel has even developed specialized classes – such as evening sunset yoga – to help weary travelers and business people unwind at the end of a stressful day. “It’s just one of the many ways we anticipate the needs of our guests,” adds Lambert.
The hotel also boasts a luxurious 50-seat private screening room, complete with reclining white leather seats, and a 250-seat cinema with its own popcorn concession booth. The hotel even has an art gallery, the Kandy Gallery, featuring awe-inspiring nature photographs by renowned Canadian photographer Neil Dankoff. “We like to think that the entire hotel is a gallery of sorts, as we house more than 800 pieces of original works of art throughout the property. The photos, which were commissioned in respect to Canada’s love of nature, are also our way bringing beauty from around the world to our door,” Lambert says.
The commitment to working with local craftspeople extends to other suppliers as well. The hotel purchases its case goods and soft seating for guest rooms from JIS Contract Furniture of Montreal. “We want to support as many Canadian companies as we can,” he adds.
Hotel staff members reach out to guests in advance, and for groups they sit down with the planners prior to their stay to help tailor their experience. “We see what their hopes and needs are, and can be very flexible with all of our space, whether it’s our outdoor terrace or an indoor meeting room,” he adds. “Although there are two ballrooms and numerous meeting rooms, the space everyone asks for is on our 3-level Falcon SkyBar which also features a 55 foot heated pool. On the 28th floor, there is a room called ‘The View’ at Falcon SkyBar which is ideal for events and true to its name, the view is stunning.”
The $300 million hotel may add phase two in the future, but for now they are fully focused on opening all the amenities on the existing site over the next year.
The 400-room hotel, which had a soft opening in March 2018, continues to expand its offerings. A museum honoring the history of exhibition place will open later this summer, a signature restaurant, Pétros 82, is anticipated to open in September, and a 10 room luxury hotel spa will open early next year. The year 2019 will also see the addition of a second pool at TEN X TORONTO and 2020 will see a skybridge added connecting the Hotel X Toronto with the BeanField Centre.
‘An Incredible Team’
Since opening, Hotel X Toronto has been climbing the charts on TripAdvisor, joining its sister hotels of Library Hotel Collection, well known for having the highest levels of guest satisfaction of any luxury hotel brand on the world. All of the hotel’s employees share one common attribute. “Our hiring philosophy is that it doesn’t matter to us if you’ve never worked in a hotel before – we are confident that we can teach those skillsets, but we can’t teach people to be kind,” Lambert notes. “We are always looking to hire happy people, who are naturally wired for people pleasing. If we get that warm feeling from people during the interview; we know that with training and empowerment, the guests will be in great hands.”
Hotel X Toronto believes in treating its guests and employees with kindness and respect. “We want to establish a culture of continuous improvement here. Everyone is welcome to express their creative ideas on how to delight our guests and solve problems,” he adds. “There’s a positive, collaborative approach here.”
The hotel’s hiring approach is proving successful. “In our TripAdvisor reviews, many people praise our service and mention our staff members thoughtfulness,” Lambert says. “We have guests commenting about how someone on our team went above and beyond for them and made their stay extraordinary.
“That makes us proud, because many of our people had never even worked in a hotel before,” he adds. “We have such an incredible team.”
Hotel X Toronto is one of seven hotel properties in the Library Hotel Collection, led by owner Henry Kallan and Managing Director Peter Velk.
The hotel started development and construction in 2013, including time to finalize permits and design, after Kallan made a successful bid to develop a nine-acre parcel of lakefront land in the city’s Exhibition Place district. “When [Kallan] looked at the site, he thought `with so many waterfront acres on city parkland, why create an ordinary convention hotel when you can design an extraordinary lakefront urban resort, with amenities that will make it a year-round destination,” Lambert says.
Library Hotel Collection also owns and operates the Library Hotel, Casablanca Hotel, Hotel Giraffe and Hotel Elysée, all in New York City; In Europe, travelers enjoy music and luxury at the Aria Hotel Prague, and the Aria Hotel Budapest, which was recognized as the No. 1 hotel in the world by TripAdvisor in 2017.
