eMarketer projects U.S. holiday sales to surpass $1 trillion
eMarketer’s Holiday Shopping 2019 report says despite the shorter timeframe between Thanksgiving and Christmas, retail sales are expected to climb 3.8 percent this year to $1.008 trillion.
Cyber Monday on Dec. 2 is expected to be the biggest online shopping day in U.S. history, according to the report. Total sales could possibly surpass $10 billion.
Brick-and-mortar’s share of holiday sales has steadily declined, but it still represents the majority at 86.6 percent. In-store sales for the 2019 holiday season are expected to increase by 2.5 percent to $872.25 billion.
